If I watch a film or TV show, or read a book, I am truly happiest when it’s one which forces me to use my head. I love to spot the small clues which are peppered throughout. My task is always to try and work out who did what to whom, and when. Slight problem is that if you are watching something with me, I tend to share my theories out loud. Ha!
It has only just occurred to me today that I would do well to try and adopt this strategy in my own life too.
We are only four days into 2020 and already there are hints that it’s not going to be a breeze of a year. An elderly family member is in hospital, following ill health before Christmas. This might well improve, but at the moment it’s meant I am making casseroles, stews and soups to be frozen and taken to their home. Cooking for me is never a problem, but this all needs extra preparation for both time and shopping. It’s all achievable though. It’s going to take a while for this person to get fully better, and to achieve that many other things will need to be discussed and decided.
Some of you know that my cat is battling an incurable illness at present too. Yes, I am resigned to time ticking away for him, BUT I get to smile each time I have to order more meds for him… it’s another couple of months he’s kept steadily going… and enjoying reminding the dog that he’s still in charge of our home!
Ah yes… my dog. He will be 14 next month, and some of you may remember that he collapsed a couple of years back. The vet found that he has arthtitis and put him on loxicom, which brought him back to himself! Fast forward to now, and although he’s very much growing more and more white fur, and is much slower, not wanting to walk toooooo far… apart from all that, he’s the same spirited loon he’s always been, and adored for it.
I am preparing for all these challenges that are hinted at, because I know that all too often life likes to add other unforeseen, but massive obstacles and I need to be as prepared as I can be.
A BIG part of that preparation for me is to take time to breathe, and smile inside and out at all the great blessings I have too. It is good to selfishly dwell on the good and happy, I think. I fully intend to let them permit me to build a buffer zone of sparkling warmth for when other things hit!
